The recipe for meat with potatoes is a very typical stew of the gastronomy of the Canary Islands. It consists of a very flavorful stew that combines the most basic ingredients of any home: potatoes and meat, which are cooked in a very tasty sauce.
There is no exact recipe and the ingredients vary from area to area, from family to family, since the recipe is usually passed from generation to generation. To convert this traditional recipe into a vegan recipe, we will replace the meat with seaman, a vegetable substitute for meat based on wheat gluten.
Ingredients to make Satan Stew with Potatoes:
- 300 grams of seaman
- 1 onion
- 2 carrots
- 2 Tomatoes
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 bell pepper
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 sprig of thyme
- 1 glass of white wine
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pinch of ground pepper
- 6 potatoes
- 1 liter of vegetable broth or water
- 2 tablespoons of oil
How to make Satan Potato Stew:
- To start making this seaman stew with potatoes, start by cutting the seaman into small cubes, season with salt and pepper and fry in the pan with a little oil until they brown a bit. Place the seaman in a container and reserve.
- Cut the tomato, pepper and onion into small cubes and the carrot into slices. Prepare an onion, garlic, tomato and pepper fry in the same pan you used for the seaman.
- When the sauce for the vegan stew with seaman is almost done, add the bay leaf, thyme and paprika. Cook for half a minute and add a splash of wine and water or vegetable broth. Transfer this seaman stir – fry with vegetables to a pot along with the vegetable meat and the sliced carrot.
- Pour the rest of the vegetable broth or water and the rest of the wine into the pot. Bring everything to a boil, check the salt and pepper levels, rectify the flavor and let the stewed seaman cook for about 15 minutes.
- Then add the potatoes, peeled and cut to about the same size as the vegetable meat, and cook the vegan stew with seaman until the potatoes are soft.
- Serve the seaman stew with potatoes very hot and that’s it!
