Ingredients to make Colombian Canellas:

  1. 5 glasses of brandy
  2. 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  3. 4 cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon
  4. 80 grams of Pamela or piloncillo
  5. 4 units of wine glass
  6. 2 units of Lemon
  7. 2 cups of Water (480 milliliters)

How to make Colombian Canelazo:

  • Our first step is to prepare the ingredients for the Colombian canelazo.
  • Bring a pot of water over medium heat until it is half lukewarm.
  • Once you observe that the water is lukewarm, add the panela or piloncillo and the sugar, and let it dissolve in the water.
  • Once you see that the water is boiling, add the cinnamon splinters and let the panela infuse with the cinnamon. If you don’t have cinnamon sticks you can use its powdered version. Let boil for about 10 to 15 minutes. After the time, turn off the heat and add the lemon juice.
  • Serve the infusion of panela water with cinnamon in each of the glasses, the idea is that this drink is served hot. Add a glass of brandy to each of the drinks and mix very well.
  • Serve the Colombian canelazo hot, if you want you can add cloves or anise stars, or change the lemon for the orange juice. You can accompany it with a homemade cake or easy cookies.
