How to make Sausage Puff Pastry Bites:
Before starting with the step-by-step recipe for puff pastry bites, we lay out the ingredients on our kitchen table for a more efficient execution.
Remember that if you want to make the dough yourself, you can carefully follow the homemade puff pastry recipe. We start by spreading the puff pastry sheet on a smooth and lightly floured surface. With the help of a rolling pin greased with flour, we stretch it. On the other hand, we cut the sausages into regular bites. We have used chicken sausages and the result has been great!
You can try the classic frankfurters or any other variety such as chicken, turkey or even vegetarian sausages. With the help of a pizza cutter or a knife, cut the extended puff pastry into strips. Take the hot dog portions as a reference to calculate the width of each strip.
Since we are going to make a mini hot dog-style salty puff pastry version, we sprinkle each of the strips with ketchup and barbecue sauce. We place each piece of sausage at the beginning of the strip, and on it, the portion of tranchete or sliced cheese that you choose.
You roll the sausage on the puff pastry and when it is completely covered, cut and press so that it does not unroll. Repeat the process with all the strips until the puff pastry is finished. As in the photo, it has given us to make 30 salty puff pastry bites. We spread with beaten egg all the puff pastry bites with sausage, while we heat the oven to 180ºC. Bake at this same temperature until the puff pastry is golden brown (about 20-25 minutes).
Remember to leave some space between bites, because the puff pastry, although our layer is thin, grows a lot during baking. Eat hot and freshly made!
