Ingredients to make Catalan Chickpeas:

  • 1 onion
  • 1 can of natural crushed tomato
  • 200 grams of chickpeas
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 10 grams of fresh parsley
  • 1 handful of hazelnuts
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

How to make Catalan Chickpeas:

1 Soak the chickpeas the night before. The next day, cook the chickpeas in a pot with water over high heat for approximately 1 hour and a half. On the other hand, chop the onion very fine and poach it with the hot olive oil.

Tip: if you have a pressure cooker, you can cook the chickpeas in 30 minutes.

2 When the onion is golden, add the crushed tomato. Let everything fry and concentrate for 10 more minutes. Next, add a tablespoon of flour, mix well to integrate and let it cook for 4 or 5 minutes.

3 At this point, and with the help of a ladle, add the broth from the chickpeas to the sauce and stir well. In this way you will bind the soffit and it will be ready for the next step. Without a doubt, this is one of the tricks to get good Catalan-style chickpeas.

Trick: with two ladles of broth is enough to bind it.

4 Incorporate all the soffit that you had linked to the pot of chickpeas and mix well. Let it reduce with low heat.

5 Prepare the cicada, which is another of the keys to the Catalan-style stewed chickpeas recipe. To make it, put the two peeled and chopped garlic cloves, the parsley and the handful of hazelnuts in a mortar. Blend it all until you have a paste.

6 Add all the minced meat to the pot of chickpeas and mix very well so that it dissolves.

7 Let reduce a little more, depending on whether you like more or less liquid, and serve the chickpeas in a deep plate or a bowl. You will now have some delicious Catalan-style chickpeas ready. Bon Appetite!
