Goat cheese canapés recipe with fig jam

FoodsDiary By FoodsDiary

At home we really like snack dinners and I enjoy preparing different savory recipes with fig jam for such occasions. One of them is these goat cheese canapés that I share with a mild flavor and an elegant sweet and salty contrast thanks to fresh goat cheese and fig jam.

These goat cheese canapés with fig jam are extremely easy to prepare and success is guaranteed if you choose a good product. The secret? That the fig jam is homemade. It is a little more complicated but I assure you that it is worth the effort and I encourage you to prepare them since the fig trees begin to bear fruit at the end of summer and we are in the best season.

On this occasion I am not putting quantities but only ingredients because it will depend on the number of canapés of goat cheese with jam that you want to prepare.

Ingredients to make Canapés of goat cheese with fig jam:

  • 1 piece of fresh goat cheese
  • rolls for canapés
  • 1 kilogram of Figs
  • 200 grams of sugar (1 cup)
  • 1 small lemon

How to make Canapés of goat cheese with fig jam:

We start by preparing the homemade fig jam. To do this, we divide the figs into quarters and check that they do not have any unwanted bugs inside. We leave the skin on except in the case of figs with excessively thick and hard skin, in which case we would peel them.

We put them in a good saucepan that does not stick and add the sugar and a splash of lemon juice and bring to the fire. We will use a medium heat and stir from time to time to prevent the fruit and sugar from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.

Gradually the fruit will melt thanks to the heat, the sugar and the lemon juice. The riper the figs, the less time it will take to be ready.

We will know that the homemade fig jam is made when it begins to thicken, then we remove it from the heat and wait for it to cool down. Once the homemade fig jam is warm, we have two options: leave it to cool down and leave it as it is with pieces of fruit or pass it through the blender and grind it.

I usually choose to crush it because it is more comfortable to spread and use in confectionery.

Whether we shred it or not, we should let it cool completely before assembling the goat cheese canapés to prevent the bread from softening. Once the jam is cold, we proceed to assemble the goat cheese and jam toasts: we divide the goat cheese into small cubes and reserve. In each bun we put a little bit of fig jam and on top of it a piece of goat cheese.

We serve the goat cheese canapés with fig jam immediately to prevent the bread from getting soft.

Tip: The cheese that can be fresh or goat cheese must be cold so that it is easier to cut.
