Chicken Skewers with Yakitori Sauce Recipe

FoodsDiary By FoodsDiary

To prepare this Japanese recipe we are going to use chicken breast and various Asian sauces such as soy sauce and mirin.

Mirin or rice wine has a sweet taste, it can be said that it is similar to sake but stronger and sweeter. This drink is only used for cooking, it is not drunk as in the case of sake. On the other hand, the Japanese 7 spices (shichimi togarashi) are a mixture of tangerine peel, sesame, poppy seeds, chili pepper, Sichuan pepper, ginger, and nori seaweed.

At this article, we have prepared these chicken skewers with yakitori sauce, also known as the famous chicken yakitori, in a simple way and in just 20 minutes. Take the opportunity to prepare this yakitori recipe this summer!

Ingredients to make Chicken Skewers with Yakitori Sauce:

  • ½ unit of chicken breast
  • 100 milliliters of soy sauce
  • 100 milliliters of rice wine or mirin
  • 1 tablespoon of white sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of Sancho pepper or Japanese seven spices
  • 1 jet of olive oil
  • 8 units of bamboo sticks

How to make Chicken Skewers with Yakitori Sauce:

We gather all the ingredients to make the chicken yakitori recipe. If you can’t find the 7 Japanese spices you can mix a little chili, ginger powder, and sesame and ground black pepper. To prepare the yakitori sauce, mix the mirin with the soy sauce and the sugar.

If you want a more detailed explanation to make this Japanese sauce, you can take a look at the yakitori sauce recipe. Heat the yakitori sauce in a pot and let it boil for 8-10 minutes so that the alcohol in the mirin evaporates and thickens the sauce. Separately, cut the chicken breast into strips approximately 2 centimeters thick. We put salt and thread the chicken breast on the bamboo sticks, as indicated in the image.

Brown the chicken skewers on a griddle or pan with a little olive oil. Let the meat seal on both sides. We take out and reserve. Pass the Japanese chicken skewers through the yakitori sauce and put them back in the pan until they are cooked on both sides.

We serve the chicken skewers with the yakitori sauce and leave a little sauce aside to be able to dip each bite.
