Ingredients to make York ham and cheese empanada:
- 2 sheets of puff pastry
- 200 grams of sweet ham
- 150 grams of Cheese for sandwich
- 1 unit of Egg
How to make York Ham and Cheese Empanada:
Defrost and extend the puff pastry sheets leaving it about 1 mm thick. Spread the ham on the base and the cheese slices on top.
Trick: Remember that you can also make individual empanadas by cutting smaller pieces of puff pastry
Moisten the edges of the base with water, cover with the other sheet, press the edges well, decorate and braid around it. Brush it with beaten egg, make a hole in the middle and prick it symmetrically all over its surface with a fork so it doesn’t inflate when cooked.
Tip: to cook puff pastry it is not necessary to grease the oven tray, you just have to moisten the tray slightly with water
Bake it like any other empanada, at medium temperature for about 15 minutes or until the puff pastry begins to brown. When baking the puff pastry, do not open the oven before 15 minutes of cooking, as this could prevent the puff pastry from rising correctly… or lowering if it was already risen.
Let it rest for a few minutes and enjoy the delicious ham and cheese empanada to share at dinner, breakfast or even a snack.
