Ingredients to make Dominican Pastelitos:

  • 1 pound of flour
  • ¼ pound of butter
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 2 units of egg yolk
  • 1 cup of ice water
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon royal powder

How to make Dominican Pastelitos:

Sift the flour with the baking powder. Pour the yolks and add the fats and water. A good, then leave a while in the fridge. Roll out the dough on a floured table.  Once it is very fine, rounds are cut the size you want to make the cupcakes. To prepare the cupcakes, each circle of dough is filled and the edges are wet with a wet brush, another lid is placed on top and with a fork the edges are pressed well.

Dominican pastelitos are fried in hot oil. Remember not to exceed the amount of filling so that they do not open during cooking. Drain with absorbent paper to remove excess oil. To fill the Dominican pastelitos, prepare a mincemeat of chicken or pork as you prepare it for any filling.
