Moorish Tea

Ingredients to make Moorish tea:

  1. 2 units of black tea
  2. 2 sprigs of mint
  3. 2 dessert spoons of brown sugar
  4. 450 milliliters of Water

How to make Moorish tea:

  • We gather all the ingredients to prepare the Moorish tea. Moroccan tea is traditionally made with gunpowder tea, but you can use any type of green or black tea.
  • In a teapot we place the tea and some branches of fresh mint. If you are using loose gunpowder tea, the correct process is to put boiling water in the kettle with the tea, let it steep for 30 seconds, and pour that water away. In this way the tea opens and the bitter taste is eliminated.
  • Add the brown sugar in the teapot. If you prefer, you can use white sugar or honey.
  • Add the boiling water and let stand for 3 minutes.
  • To make green tea with mint in the traditional way, the sugar should not be stirred, what we do is serve the tea in one of the typical Moroccan glasses and pour it back into the teapot. We repeat this process a couple more times to mix the flavors.
  • Moorish tea is drunk very hot and is usually served in a glass, keeping the teapot well distanced when pouring it so that it forms a little foam. If you like natural infusions, we recommend chai tea or ginger and lemon infusion.
