Ingredients to make Savory Tart Dough:

• 180 grams of wheat flour

• 60 grams of cold butter

• 3 tablespoons of cold water

• ½ dessert spoon of salt

How to make Savory Tart Dough:

Place the flour, salt, and cubed butter in a food processor or blender. Mix the ingredients at medium speed until you get a sandy consistency. You can also do this step manually, using your fingertips.

Tip: Use butter, not margarine, since the result would not be the same.

Pour the cold water little by little and continue mixing until you get a compact dough. If you notice that the dough crumbles and does not fully compact, add a little more water. On the other hand, if the dough sticks, you will have to add more flour. This is a foolproof trick that will allow you to achieve a savory pie dough with the perfect texture.

Knead with your hands and wrap the salty cake dough in plastic wrap. Then, she reserves it in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes. As a whole, the dough should be compact, however, when separating a piece it should crumble; this is the main characteristic of broken dough.

After the resting time, separate the dough into two halves, one larger than the other, and spread them out with a floured rolling pin. Then, cover the base and walls of a mold with the larger dough and bake at 200ºC for 10 minutes.

Tip: We recommend preheating the oven so that the savory tart dough cooks evenly.

Remove the dough from the oven, add the salty filling you want, cover it with the remaining dough sheet and paint it with beaten egg or water. Press the edges with the tips of a fork to set the dough and improve presentation. If you want, you can sprinkle seeds. And if you don’t know what filling to prepare, here are some ideas:

• Vegetable Quiche

• Cod pie

Tip: Make a hole in the dough to allow the filling to release steam.

Bake again for 20-30 minutes, or until you notice that the dough is golden, and that’s it. This recipe is even used to make Easter cake dough, so the possibilities are endless. As you can see, it is an easy cake dough to make, light and delicious. Although this recipe is designed to prepare savory tarts, if you dare to make sweet tart dough, you simply have to add sugar to taste.

Easy cake dough – Tips and tricks

This is a very easy and quick cake and tartlet dough to make, designed for salty and light preparations because it does not contain sugar and we hardly use fat. In any case, if you want to try preparing savory tart dough with oil instead of butter, it is as simple as substituting one ingredient for another while maintaining the same amount. That said, let’s go with some tips and tricks for a perfect dough:

• The kitchen robot makes the job much easier, however, you can always make the salty cake dough by hand. To do this, you must mix the flour, salt and butter using only the tips of your fingers. In this way, the sandy texture we are looking for is achieved.

• The butter must be cold so that the dough is like sand, if we incorporate it melted or at room temperature the result will not be the same.

• When pouring the water, we recommend doing it with the help of a spoon to avoid adding too much at once. With this type of dough it is better to go little by little.

• For a lighter savory pie crust, use whole meal flour. You can use wheat, corn, oats, chickpeas or rice.

• You can add seeds or cereals to the dough to give extra flavor to your savory cakes. For example, you can add chia seeds, flax seeds, oatmeal…

On the other hand, once you have tried this recipe, if you feel like delving into the world of confectionery and cheering yourself up with the sweet version to make, for example, a dough for apple pie, add a little sugar, cinnamon and vanilla essence, you will love the result!
