This Turkish moneymen recipe, also called a Turkish omelet, is generally used for family breakfasts. It is very peculiar because it is served in the same pan where it is cooked and each of the diners chooses their portion. Traditionally, it is accompanied with rich homemade toasted bread or with a yogurt sauce to contrast the spiciness of this dish. Also, if you prefer, you can use this simple and delicious dish to quickly fix dinner on a hot day or lunch while you work from home and don’t have time to cook something more elaborate.

  • 9 canned plum tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 dessert spoon of oil
  • 1 tablespoon of butter

How to make Turkish Moneymen:

  1. To start with the preparation, peel and chop the onion into very small cubes. Next, brown it with 1 teaspoon of oil in a very hot pan.
  2.  Traditionally, moneymen are served in cast-iron pans, but if you don’t have one, you can use the regular pan.
  3. Once the onion is nicely browned, lower the heat to medium and add 1 tablespoon of hot water. Stir and wait until it evaporates.
  4. At this time, add another tablespoon of water and repeat this procedure as many times as you want. We point out that the more times you do it, the sweeter it will be.
  5.  And, if you want your moneymen to be spicy, like the original, add the finely chopped green pepper so that it also cooks a little.
  6.  If you add the seeds of the pepper, the stronger the spiciness will be.
  7. Once the onion and, if you wish, the peppers are cooked, add the peeled and chopped canned Turkish tomatoes or puritan tomatoes, along with the tablespoon of butter.
  8.  If you want to use fresh tomatoes, wash them, make a shallow cut in the skin at the base of the tomato, and plunge them into boiling water for 30 seconds.
  9. Easily remove its skin and grate or chop it into small cubes. What do you think of this Turkish moneymen recipe?
