Nowadays, many people opt for a healthy vegetable diet and if you want to offer your guests or family members an original and attractive recipe, surprise them with these vegetable slices that imitate fish. The main ingredient of the vegan fish recipe is sweet potato or bonito, a very versatile vegetable with an ideal texture for this type of preparation.
To add the characteristic flavor of the sea to the easy-to-make vegan fish that I bring, I have added sesame oil, soy sauce and dill, as neither well as nor seaweed that also serve as the “skin”.
There are many options for presenting these delicious vegan “fish” slices: grill or bake them and simply accompany them with a vegetable garnish or serve them, for example, with a green sauce, onion sauce or mojo sauce.
Ingredients to make Vegan Fish:
- 3 cooked medium white sweet potatoes
- 2 sheets of nor seaweed
- 3 tablespoons of corn starch
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
How to make Vegan Fish:
- Cook the sweet potatoes in the oven or in boiling water until soft. Peel them and mash them with a fork until they are pureed and add the rest of the easy vegan fish ingredients: cornstarch, garlic and onion powder, sesame oil, turmeric, dill, salt and the soy sauce.
- Knead the sweet potato until all the ingredients are well integrated. Place the vegan fish dough on the lower end of a sheet of nor seaweed and carefully roll it into an oval shape. Wet the opposite end of the seaweed with a little water so that it sticks well. Brush the second sheet of nor seaweed with water with the help of a kitchen brush and wrap the vegan “fish” roll again.
- Steam the vegan fish in a steamer for 40 minutes.
- Cut the vegan fish roll with nor seaweed into slices. At this point in the preparation you can freeze the slices for later use.
- Cook the vegan fish slices to your liking: baked, grilled, with sauce, with onion, etc.
